HELPING COTTONWOOD PETS STAY SAFE ON THANKSGIVING DAY

  |     |   Uncategorized

If you’re celebrating Thanksgiving in your apartment home this year, make sure to take a few precautions to keep your furry family members safe.

First, beware of turkey bones!

Trash and table scraps should not be within reach of your dog or cat. Bones can cause internal bleeding, intestinal obstruction, or worse.

Second, be mindful of foods that are toxic to pets.

Here is a list of foods that can have varying toxic effects on pets. Keep the number and address of the nearest 24-hour veterinary clinic handy just in case.

Alcohol
Fruit toxins
Onions and garlic
Caffeine
Milk and dairy
Fat trimmings and bones
Yeast dough
Chocolate
Mushrooms
Raw meat and fish
Fatty foods
Raw eggs
Nuts
Salt
Nutmeg
Rhubarb

Third, keep pets confined when guests are coming and going.

It’s best to keep pets away from the door and incoming people. This will make the surprise of new people on the scene less frightening. It will also make it less likely that your pet will slip out unexpectedly.
