Being productive whether at work or at home can be a challenge.  When we leave the office or lay down to bed at night we have all know that feeling of wishing for more hours in the day.  We want to complete as much as we can in one day and feel a sense of accomplishment. 

There are lots of books and articles on how we can be more productive.  Here are 5 tips that we have found help to increase productivity. 

Take Breaks

Whether it is taking a few minutes to walk up and down the stairs or leaving the office for your lunch break, we need to take breaks throughout the day.  These small pauses in your day will help relieve stress and refresh creativity.  It is also good for your health to stand up and walk around every hour or two.  Sitting down all day can be tough on your body.   

Stop watching so much TV

After a long day of work it is tempting to drive home, lay on the couch and turn on the TV.  We have good intentions to only watch one episode on Netflix but 5 hours later we have accidentaly watched an entire season.  It is good to veg out every once in a while but try relaxing in other ways.  Take a yoga class, learn to play the guitar, go for a walk, visit your grandparents.  These means of relaxation will help you will feel more energized and accomplished. 

Set ambitious and achievable goals

If you are completing all of your goals in one day you may want to try setting your sites a little higher.  Set goals that are achievable but ambitious enough that you will stretch and grow. Other ways to help you follow through with your goals are to write them down and then tell other people about it.   This will help you be more accountable and you will follow through to the end. 

Complete most dreaded tasks first thing in the morning

Whether it is cleaning the bathroom, sending an email to your boss, grocery shopping, or making a difficult call.  The more challending the task the more tempting it may be to procrastinate.  If you complete your most dreaded tasks first thing in the morning you won’t have to worry and stress about it the rest of the day.  This will help your day run smoother and you will be more productive. 

Write out a to-do list at night

To-do lists will be your lifeline.  Set aside 15 minutes before you go to bed to plan out tasks you need to work on and accomplish the next day.  This process will help you sleep better because you wont be tossing and turning thinking about what you need to do the next day.  You will also be more productive the following morning and throughout the day.  Your to-do lists will keep you on task and you will know your task priority.
